Overview

Treasure Quest was a casual gaming portal with a deeply integrated meta-game experience evolved from the former Big Sea Games. Players could choose from a variety of game genres, earning gold and status by playing games and completing daily challenges. Treasure Quest was one of Big Fish’s most ambitious external site launches, with an intense focus on releasing higher quality games and a better user experience than its competitors on Facebook.

Results

Treasure Quest launched on April 19th, 2010 and reached a peak of 323,000 monthly active users. Treasure Quest also received accolades from games.com and insidesocialgames.com.

Treasure Quest was a large Facebook application with numerous screen states and components related to the meta-game.

The in-game daily challenges were the most important function of Treasure Quest and featured prominently on the main page. The page was designed to get users into the games as fast as possible with the least amount of friction.

Areas above the game were reserved to display game challenge information and notify players when they earned treasure chests.

Part of the meta-game experience was unlocking stores that sold items to enhance gameplay or increase rewards received over time.

Nearly all of the user research, data, and testing gathered from Big Sea Games, were applied on Treasure Quest.

I streamlined the process of purchasing in-game currency by simplifying the steps during each process, showing only relevant inputs, and keeping the user within the same window.
